EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING SUPPORT FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND COLLEGE STUDENTS

Students who recognize the significance of developing essential skills for their transition to college are well-suited for the EF services offered at Thrive College Counseling. We aim to collaborate with and empower students, encouraging them to take ownership of their coaching sessions and cultivate self-advocacy skills crucial for success in college. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, we work together to establish goals in the areas outlined below, integrating each student’s unique strengths into our goal-setting process.

Organizational Skills / Academics
We are committed to supporting students in their ongoing development of organizational skills and the effective use of tools to manage their responsibilities and achieve academic goals. Our guidance includes assisting students in:
  • Establishing a routine for regularly checking and responding to emails and texts
  • Utilizing academic resources such as tutoring services
  • Reviewing course syllabi and expectations collaboratively, breaking down homework and study requirements
  • Problem-solving academic challenges and navigating college-related issues
  • For college students, discussing the necessary steps to register with disability services
  • Engaging in continuous discussions around self-awareness and self-advocacy skills

Independent Living Skills / Making Social Connections
The independent nature of the college environment requires students to manage their responsibilities without parental oversight. Additionally, connecting with the college community is a fundamental aspect of the college experience. We will work with students to:
  • Establish self-care routines that prioritize health, hygiene, medication management, and sleep schedules
  • Develop an understanding of mental health needs and the resources available for accessing support
  • Acquire skills for managing technology use effectively
  • Navigate the dynamics of living with a roommate
  • Recognize the importance of engaging with the college community in ways that resonate with their interests
