EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING SUPPORT

Executive functioning skills help students manage tasks, time, and goals effectively. For high school students preparing for college, these skills become crucial for academic success and independent living. These are the areas that Thrive EF coaches will address with their students:

Time Management and Planning involves helping students learn to estimate how long tasks will take, create realistic schedules, and use planning tools effectively. Students develop skills in breaking down large assignments into manageable steps and balancing academic work with extracurricular activities and personal time.

Organization Systems focuses on both physical and digital organization strategies. Students learn to maintain organized study spaces, manage materials and supplies, organize digital files and folders, and develop systems for tracking assignments and deadlines across multiple classes.

Task Initiation and Follow-Through addresses common challenges with procrastination and task completion. Coaches help students develop strategies for getting started on difficult or overwhelming tasks, maintaining motivation throughout longer projects, and building consistent study habits and routines.

Self-Monitoring and Reflection helps students develop awareness of their own learning processes and progress. This includes teaching students to assess their understanding of material, recognize when they need help, evaluate the effectiveness of their study strategies, and adjust their approaches based on what works best for them.

Goal Setting and Prioritization teaches students to set realistic short-term and long-term academic goals, prioritize tasks based on importance and deadlines, and make decisions about how to allocate their time and energy most effectively.
These executive functioning skills provide the foundation students need to thrive independently in college, where they'll face increased academic demands and greater personal responsibility for managing their learning and daily life.
