EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING SUPPORT FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND COLLEGE STUDENTS

Students who understand the importance of building the skills needed for their transition to college are a good match for the EF services at Thrive College Counseling. We work to partner with and empower students to take ownership of their coaching sessions to build the self-advocacy skills that are critical to college success. Through our strengths-based approach, together we create goals in the areas described below, and we incorporate the strengths of the student as we work to delineate goals.
ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS/ACADEMICS Continue the student’s growth trajectory in developing organizational skills, and making use of tools, to support the student’s ability to navigate responsibilities and have a plan to meet academic goals. This will include guiding the student to: 1. Develop a plan to regularly check and respond to emails and texts 2. Make use of academic support such as tutoring, etc. 3. Review the syllabi/expectations in each class with the coach, and break down the homework and study needs 4. Problem solve challenges that arise both academically and around navigating college/school in general 5. For college students, discuss steps needed to register with disability services in college 6. Ongoing discussions around self-awareness and self-advocacy skills INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS/MAKING SOCIAL CONNECTIONS The independence of a college environment necessitates that students are able to manage their responsibilities without oversight from a parent or guardian. Another central aspect of the college experience is connecting with the college community in a way that is a fit for the student. We will work with the student to:
