COLLEGE COUNSELING AND EF SERVICES
HOW SERVICES ARE PROVIDED AT THRIVE COLLEGE COUNSELING
Initially, Dr. Schwartz meets with all new families and develops a plan with the student and parent through discussions around college readiness skills and the skills needed to navigate the transition to college. She also reviews with students and parents how accommodations and services are provided in college. Discussions around the various levels of support available for students based on their college readiness skills all contribute to setting a student on a path towards successful next steps after high school.
Through discussions with Dr. Schwartz, families can then select the plan of services that are a fit for their situation. Some families find that the one meeting with Dr. Schwartz is all that is needed to guide them in their next steps. Other families will want to receive additional guidance and support around college readiness and the college application process. At Thrive College Counseling, families can create a plan of services including:
- Comprehensive College Counseling with an Independent Educational Consultant (see details below)
- Executive Functioning tutoring with an EF Coach (see details below)
- Periodic meetings with Dr. Schwartz to review the college list and college readiness (see details below)
When meeting with Dr. Schwartz you can develop a plan that offers services that will fit the unique profile of each student.
PLEASE NOTE:
It is important to be aware that the disability offices at many colleges will want a recent psychological evaluation in order to provide services to a student. This type of evaluation will also be important in guiding our path to identifying appropriate colleges. Feel free to contact Dr. Schwartz for a list of individuals providing evaluations as well as community-based resources that might be appropriate for your family. It is up to the family to ensure that appropriate documentation is available for college disability offices to determine accommodations for the student as they transition to college.
Some colleges offer comprehensive support programs that require an additional application and fee. It is important that families are aware of these additional applications and work with your support system to ensure those are sent out within the recommended deadlines. It is up to the family to make the decision to apply to a program and be responsible for meeting the time frames for these applications.

PERIODIC MEETINGS WITH DR. SCHWARTZ TO REVIEW THE COLLEGE LIST AND COLLEGE READINESS
COLLEGE READINESS AND COLLEGE LIST DEVELOPMENT
When working with Dr. Schwartz, discussions around the skills needed to successfully transition from a high school environment to a college setting will be incorporated into our meetings. We will review the differences between high school and college to inform students and parents of what will be expected of students in a college setting in order to receive the support services that will allow the student to find success in college. We will also review the different levels of support available in colleges and discuss the type of learning environment that is a fit for the student. Independent living skills, academic skills, and self-advocacy skills are all areas that Dr. Schwartz will incorporate into the meetings with the student and parent. This information, along with various other factors including academic interests, finances, etc. will serve as a guide as we work to develop a college list that will offer the student a range of options.
Thrive College Counseling works to support families in providing the unique resources they need for their particular journey from high school to post-secondary experiences.
